broom broom Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 Well an independant garage has told me that its the air conditioning compressor clutch assembly pulley thats makin the noise (kinda rattling noise like the bearings gone) but according to the rip off merchants also known as my local ford dealership say the whole lots gotta be replaced the clutch assembly itself is Quote
Guest simonlacey88 Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 that is a option the only problem you have is when you come to sell it, also the pully will have to be removed so that a belt can be fitted , out of interest what galaxy do you have make model agecheers Quote

broom broom Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 the stupid thing is the A/C is working its just that the bearing has gone am defo thats what it is am so annoyed! Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Are you sure it's the AC compressor making the noise and not the idler pully or the tensioner pully? Quote
broom broom Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 Its defo the pulley on the compressor and as far as am aware this part isn't servicable and has to be replaced ;) Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Does anyone know if the 2.3 shares the same compressor as any other model in the range? 1.9 tdi, vr6 etc ? Quote
Guest simonlacey88 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 hi guys you can defiantley replace just the pully and bearing if you r compressor is ok i spoke to the man doing mine today he has got a pully and bearing kit from a company thAt supplie all the industry i will find the name for you the cost is a lot different no compressor to buy no regas not a lot of labout do not pay for the whole job if it is just the pully i will speak to the man on friday and let you know where you can get hold of one, then your garage can source one and save you a fortune i have been quoted about 140 instead of over 400 that is a big saving espically when the compressor is fine.cheers simon Quote
broom broom Posted April 6, 2006 Author Report Posted April 6, 2006 Yeah its just the pulley managed to get it off meself but been unable to source the right size bearing to fit it so thanks i just couldn't afford to pay for the work to be done right now and i want to get it through an MOT as soon as possible  Quote
Andrew T Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Does anyone know if the 2.3 shares the same compressor as any other model in the range? 1.9 tdi, vr6 etc ? It's unique to the 2.3, and I seem to recall works on a differant principle to the VW ones (constant displacement versus variable displacement ?). Deep in the bowels of this forum I recall some discussion on replacing just the comp' clutch, have a search. Quote
